Children can practice their sewing skills to make these pretty felt heart pillows - then decorate it with odds and ends to make it really special. It would be perfect to give for Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, Friendship Day or to Grandparents.
These can be used as an ornament, toy or a hanging decoration. Ours are going to be given to Putti's grand mothers. You will need:
sheets of felt in color of your choice
glue
Beads, sequins to decorate
Needle and thread
Stuffing (we used cotton)
Instructions:
Cut two hearts from the felt. I cut them pretty small as I did not want to overwhelm my girl with lengthy sewing. They were about 4" tall. Using running stitch let your child sew the two hearts together.
Leave a gap to stuff the pillow, but do not cut the thread yet.
We used cotton to stuff the pillow. You can use toy filling or fabric scraps too.
Putti wanted to make another one for the other grandma. This time taught her Lap stitch. It is easy! With a lap stitch, you always insert your needle on the SAME SIDE of felt every time you make a stitch. So you go through layer 1 of felt and then layer 2, then take your needle and come back to layer 1 to do it again. Hope that makes sense.
Putti thought the pillows looked rather plain and wanted to jazz it up with some sparkles. So, she glued in some sequins and spangles.
Here are the finished pillows.
They became pillows for her dolls.
If you plan on decorating these, I would suggest to decorate the hearts before sewing.
