Hearts Tree Painting

This Hearts Tree painting will make a lovely wall art for this Valentine's day!

If you have been reading our blog for sometime now, you must have seen the Magazine Tree of Hearts and the Foam Stickers Heart Tree that we had made last year. Those were amongst the most popular posts last year and surely no surprise there, as they did turn out so lovely. This Painted/ stamped hearts tree was made last year around the same time, but I could not get to post it then. Putti painted it on her easel, but you can do it on a table top too, whatever your kids fancy.

All you need for this are:

A Easel paper or Sketch Paper
Some green, red, pink and purple paints (we use crayola washable paints)
Heart shaped sponges
Potato and heart shaped cookie cutter
Paint brush
Tape

First off secure the easel paper with tape and cover the area to catch drips/ splatters, we have old table cloth that I spread beneath the easel. Shower curtain from dollar tree will work fine too. Next have your child paint their palm and part of their forearm green and print it on the lower part of the paper. This becomes the stem of your tree. If painting with a younger child, you can do the painting and help them with printing.

Wash the paints off your child's hands. You can wait till it dries or like Putti start right away. I had a set of these shaped sponges from dollar tree with many designs including heart, but you could simply cut a heart off a kitchen sponge. Dip the sponge in paint and go stamping around the handprint stem.

I wanted to add more heart sizes, but we did not have any smaller sized heart sponge. So, I used what we had at home - a potato and a heart cookie cutter to make a potato heart stamp. Dip the paotato in paint and let your child go stamping. You can see the potato stamp below.

Here is the Hearts Tree ~~growing~~ half way through. Paint as many hearts as your child wants.

This Hearts Tree is a lovely Valentine's day art for children. It can also be made as a Family tree with each person's name written on each of the heart and will make a cute Mother's Day gift too!
