Magazine Tree of Hearts !!!

Believe it or not, this beautiful 'Tree of Hearts' was made out of old magazines and this entire project cost me nothing except the frame:)
After We had made our Magazine Tree, I saw this awesome Tree of hearts over at 'Ideas from the Forest'. I fell in love with it immediately and wanted to try it with Putti. So, we started with the same method that we did in our magazine tree. I asked her to look for and cut red and pink parts from the magazines. And then, while she was not around I went ahead and cut them all into hearts. I do not own a heart craft punch, so had to cut them individually. This turned out to be a BIG mistake, Putti was really annoyed with me for cutting all of "HER" hearts ahead of time. I had to promise her that we will do one more 'Tree' soon and that I will not interfere then. A great remainder to me about helping her only when asked for:)

Well here is our cut hearts and the stem traced from her handprint!

She then went on glueing them onto the card stock.

Work in progress...

I love it! Especially all the colors the magazine cut outs made. I was headed over here to find your painting w/straws post to link to & the page wouldn't load- boy am I so glad it didn't because otherwise I may not have seen this cute craft :) Definitely going to do this one too!

I love this! It turned out so beautiful! Great idea!

Thanks!! I love how it turned out too :) Here's the link to our cut straw painting http://puttiprapancha.blogspot.com/2011/05/painting-with-cut-straws.html

Thank you! So simple and frugal yet so beautiful !!

I love this so so much. It is such a neat project and i really want to make one for my daughter's room!

This is so cute Roopa! My daughter loved it and so eager to make one. I love the falling hearts:-)

Beautiful project :-) My daughter would totally have been upset with me, too, for cutting up "her" hearts! Can't wait to see the next version!

Such a cute idea! I'm definitely going to make this with my little guy! Thank you for sharing

It looks so cute framed up. It's nice enough to hang on the wall.

Thanks! Putti is still in 'fall tree' mode, so insisted we add some falling hearts:) I have now posted a more kid friendly version with stickers too..

Thank you! I know, they are sooo 'its my project' these days:) Have posted the next version now.

Thank you! I have a more kid friendly version using heart foam stickers on the blog now.

I love this!
What a great idea for Valentines crafts too.
My toddler made something similar at christmas time to give as a gift using hand prints for leaves and magazine cuttings for the tree trunks.

Just love this! Don't have enough magazines to do it this year, but have pinned it for the future :-)

Oooh! I think I like this version better!!!!!! So cute!

Hopped on here from Mommy Labs and adored the idea. When I showed it to my 4 yo old daughter, she loved it too and wanted to make one of her own which we did. Thanks so much for inspiring us and here's what we made :)

Hi there Roopa, I love your magazine hearts and would love to feature this as a reward chart idea on our online magazine. Our reward chart focuses on getting the whole family to stick on hearts and when the tree is fully covered everyone goes on a family trip - so its a team effort. Would it be possible to use your photos in our article? We will provide a link back to your site?

Many thanks,

I can't wait to do this with my little girl. What size paper did you use?

You could use greeting cards, ad papers anything. Thanks!

Susan,
It was 14X18 inches. The other one with stickers was 8X10.

Awesome papers and so generous, I would most definitely use these in my 2012 Art Journal if I were to be so lucky :)
Regards,
Boxer.......
