Family Trees..

A family theme will not be complete without a family tree. Says who? meeeee ;) Well we had to do this. And when i get this urge i just have to do it. Couldnt wait until DH got the photo print outs, so we first tried another method.
First asked putti to paint the tree stem and branches. I told her to make 'V's from each branching point. And then gave her some color coding labels. Had to point out where i her to put these. Then she drew the facial features on them which she loves. Finally started naming them and she said that i should write in kannada, my mother tongue too. I am happy she did that:) Well i liked this tree for the fact it covers 4 generations (just the parents thou' ) and it was obvious who is who's parent.. not hapazard. Putti liked it for the colorful smiley faces, but couldnt say who was where, guess this works well for big kids who can read the names.

For our next try the stem and branches were made by blowing watered paint with a straw just like we did here. Putti is getting better and better at the blowing part. Then asked her to thumbprint with green ink all over the tree to make lots of leaves. And then named them with my and DH's family members names including our siblings and their kids too.
This is putti's and my favorite too. To amke the stem painted the sides of her arm and printed it. Later for the leaves painted the whole palm green and made several prints. She wanted to do it with both hands and we did:)

And then wanted to print with apples, but my paper was not big enough so used a flower shaped sponge, dipped it in red and made prints. And finally stuck our photos. Putti wanted to put her baby photo which i love. Then its me and my DH with our parents:))

nice ideas! In these times of nuclear families, family trees help establish the bond and make kids look at their roots like no other...
